The economy expands
21 Mar 2025
If a public park is replaced with a shopping mall, the economy grows.
If a nature trail begins charging for entry, the economy expands.
If a private dump receives more trash, the economy is on the way up.
If more plastic bags are produced, the economy booms.
If more of us need medication, the economy benefits.
If everybody works a job they dislike, the economy is healthy.
If a company raises prices for no reason, the economy expands.
If a landlord buys up every home and raises rents, the economy thrives.
The more the economy expands, the more pollution is generated.
The more the economy booms, the more junk is produced.
The more the economy grows, the more natural resources are plundered.
When I’m unhappy, the economy gives me plenty of objects and experiences to chase.
When I recognise that what I’m looking for is already right here, in the quietness of my own being, what good do they do?
If a neighbour starts a community garden, the economy does not expand.
If a backyard fruit tree bears fresh fruit, the economy goes nowhere.
If a friend offers a kind act, the economy is stagnant.
If I appreciate nature instead of manmade monoliths, the economy suffers.
If I become healthier, the healthcare industry struggles.
If I give with no expectation in return, the economy is confused.
When the target is GDP, why are we the least surprised where we’ve ended up?
