So much online discussion is an attempt to find a common, socially acceptable agreement on how to be, what to do, what is right and what the future holds.

It’s an attempt to find security, safety and acceptance.

But reality doesn’t really work that way. What is right for one person is completely wrong for another. Any ideas of morality are just ideas.

There’s comfort in knowing that your view is shared by other people. It’s validating. But it’s ultimately a false comfort.

It doesn’t get you any closer to truth, only closer to consensus.
